Adopt-A-Jesus Movie Coming Out October 2009

Today I came across a link to a trailer of an upcoming documentary called “Adopt a Jesus” which follows around a voluntarily-homeless man, Brandt Russo, a “poverty activist, follower of the way of peace, goofball” who roams the country in a cooking oil-powered old bus with “Can’t Ignore the Poor” written along the side.

I think this is worth spreading, so below is a movie promo poster and other related information, including the trailer after the jump.

Adopt-A-Jesus“ more than likely will not get to play in theatres everywhere. But we can help by spreading the word like wildfire. Use twitter, facebook, myspace, websites, blogs, tin cans, phones, graffiti, store banners, and traditional “words” to tell others ;)

An excerpt from the article, “Radical Christianity” at The Daily Iberian by Mary Catharine Martin:

… PBS producer and independent filmmaker Bob Wilkinson traveled with [Brandt] Russo for two weeks, making a documentary with the working title of “Can’t Ignore the Poor,” a trailer of which can be seen from www.astraydogfilm.com. Wilkinson said the documentary is “a lot to do with Brandt and his choice to live the lifestyle he lives.”

As a person, Wilkinson said what stands out most about Russo is his authenticity.

“He’s real compassionate, and he’s passionate about his beliefs,” he said.

On his own terms
Russo said following Jesus’ example and learning from mentors that include Mother Theresa, Gandhi and “The Irresistible Revolution” author Shane Claiborne has completely transformed his life.

“I was miserable,” Russo said about his time working in Texas. “I was getting into a box to go to this box to come back to my box and watch my box. I was obsessed with actually having money and being independent. I kept thinking I was going to do something good with my money, I was going to start an orphanage or something, but I was more obsessed with seeing the number get bigger and bigger.”
