Iron Man is Solid Gold

The first of a few highly-anticipated blockbuster movies this year, “Iron Man” delivers us from the evil of recent months’ movie slump. Yes it’s another superhero movie based on an old Marvel comic character of the same name, but it’s an action-adventure worth seeing.

New Hancock Trailer, I think I’ve seen this idea before

I happened to be watching a bit of American Idol last night in some free time, and I saw the new “Hancock” trailer. My reaction was mixed. While I think it’s a cool premise, I have never been comfortable with “supersuits” in movies. I am not a big comic fan, but I always wanted superheroes in movies to wear similar suits to the ones they wore in the comics or cartoons that made them so popular. The ‘cool black rubber/leather’ suits just look dorky sometimes. But whatever, it’s just fantasy. Watch the new trailer here…

Ben Stein’s subversive EXPELLED on the freedom to question and an interesting look at the unfair representation of Intelligent Design among academia and the media

Ben Stein’s EXPELLED introduces to a mass audience the unfairness in representation suppression of Intelligent Design among academia and the media, making the “Darwinian Establishment” somewhat of a villain of the film. The actual focus of the film, however, is the freedom to think, to question, to learn. I think it’s a good [...]

New X-Files Movie Official Title Released

I don’t know anything about X-Files and I’m not really a fan, but I thought I’d post this information for the heck of it.
The new title for 20th Century Fox’s anticipated X-Files film was released today. The film title is “The X-Files: I Want to Believe”.
THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIVE in [...]

New James Bond Movie ‘Quantum of Solace’ in Theatres Nov. 7, 2008

I’m not a fan of James Bond, mainly because I’ve not seen any of the movies, old or new. Several moons ago, we rented “Goldeneye” during a holiday with the family, but I fell asleep about two-thirds of the way into it. I sorta woke up right at the last scene, and I didn’t know what was going on. But after a few seconds, I was like “of course that guy was a double agent, and of course, she dies that way.” It was right around the time I started realizing that movies can be very predictable. My first leanings toward a movie critic.

Anyway, in case some of you Bond fans didn’t already know, a new Bond film will be released in theatres this year, with Daniel Craig starring again.

Here’s a bit of information from Sony….

Daily Dose of Meaningless Prose - Sparrow Fly High

oh how haughty the sparrow flutters
above the commoners and above the crowds.
and all the while
he festers and flits
in his own filth and lice.
oh poor sparrow full of pride and error!
but who cares, when the sparrow flies so high?
arrogant, smiling, eyes and ears closed to wisdom
truth muffled through the cackle and dirt.
fly high sparrow, fly high.
for [...]

That’s My King by S.M. Lockridge Recited by efrain gomez (audio/video)

There’s this speech that has gained notoriety online and through some Christian church communities called “That’s My King!” written by S.M. Lockridge. There are various versions of the speech that I’ve come across entitled “And the Church Said ‘Amen’” or “You Can Trust Him” as the author/speaker was known to say it many times [...]

Be Kind Rewind and Vantage Point

Michel Gondry’s “Be Kind Rewind” was really cool. Definitely worth seeing in theatres. It has a bit of tribute to filmmaking, movie-watching, storytelling, creativity and the artist’s process. plus it’s pretty funny. 3/4 stars. Vantage Point wasn’t brilliant, but it was an interesting story. There is a crucial climax scene that [...]

Trouble in the Amen Corner by Thomas Chalmers Harbaugh recited by efrain gomez

I couldn’t think of anything bloggy to post, so I’m posting an audio recording of me reciting a poem by Thomas Chalmers Harbaugh called “Trouble in the Amen Corner”. I learned this poem like 10 years ago, and it’s always been in my head. If you have a few minutes, listen/read and enjoy [...]

From Bass-Black to Treble-White, a Thought Quickie from a MySpace Bulletin on Martin Luther King Jr.

I rarely post MySpace bulletins. They’re quite annoying reallly, mostly dorky questionnaires and self-promoting “come see my show” type of bulletins. But a few days ago, I was looking for a guitar tab on my computer and I found a .txt file that was named “quotables”. In it was a few quotes [...]
