I was browsing thru Cartoon Brew today and learned that Shine Studios, the creative design studio that produced the Kung Fu Panda 2D end credit sequence in collaboration with James Baxter Animation, posted the full sequence online in high quality Quicktime.

Whoa that’s a long sentence.

“Michael Riley, Shine’s creative director, composed images of traditional Chinese landscapes, calligraphy and 2D character animation set in a 3D landscape all choreographed to the classic Carl Douglas song “Kung Fu Fighting”; remixed by Cee-Lo Green, accompanied by Jack Black. Riley’s concept included reprising the film’s main characters in original cell animations by finding them hidden in a gigantic Chinese calligraphy character.

By the way, have I mentioned how much I loved Kung Fu Panda? Cool animation and artwork, great action/fight scenes, hilarious… it’s just plain awesome. Don’t see the Incredible Hulk, it’s boring and typical - only towards the end do we get some interesting battles between two big monsters. If you see anything this weekend, see M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Happening”. If not, see Kung Fu Panda. :)

I started out doodling the word “kindalikesorta” but wasn’t paying attention and ended up spelling it wrong. so i just scribbled over it and it became this dude’s face.

when making his nose, i was actually trying to remember other people’s styles and mimic the broad-longish look i’ve seen.

Another doodle I did during the Trend Micro SKO 20th Anniversary in Orlando.

The ‘reaching’ has no real meaning in that I wasn’t trying to convey my desire to specifically “reach for the top” in the Trend ladder. I’m not that ambitious ;P But I just thought it was humorous to draw a character reaching for the ball in the sky.

So it’s more about reaching for something higher than self. Like chasing the sun, shooting for the moon, touching the eye of God, blah blah blah. Icarus-esque, I suppose.

I’m supposed to draw a cartoon a of smiling burro for a friend’s DVD. The title of the DVD is called “Aznos Reir”. It means “Make us laugh” in Spanish. But the joke of the title is that azno is another word for ‘donkey’. Haha, right?

Anyway, so today I decided to finally sit down and do some old-fashioned doodling and create a first draft of the donkey and show my friend. There are some unnecessary extras all around the donkey because I felt like he was a bit lonely :)

I’ll probably post a colored version when it’s ready.

i don’t think my drawing has changed drastically, but i have noticed some change. and i have found myself not automatically exaggerating and skewing what i see when i draw. this drawing of Nuvia is still pretty illustrative and stylistically ‘naturalistic’, but at least it’s not as cartoon-networky as a lot of my other stuff. (which is what i’m going for right now)

anyway, i hope to do more quick people illustrations like this. of family and friends and stuff. hopefully prepare myself for some ‘official’ oil and acrylic paintings.
