Hoist the Colors, the Age of Piracy reigns in Pirates of the Caribbean, At World’s End

“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” movie review by efrain gomez

Johnny Depp is my homeboy. No seriously, along with Denzel Washington and Ariel from “The Little Mermaid”, he’s at the top of my “Celebrities I Roll With” list. Mr. Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow, the coolest pirate to sail the seven seas in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”.

If you haven’t seen the other Pirates movies, please stop reading this now and see them. No seriously, go. I’ll wait.

Okay now that you’re all pirated up, don’t feel bad, I didn’t understand the second Pirates movie either (“Dead Man’s Chest”).

Here’s where we stand in the Pirates saga:
Jack is running from an outstanding debt to the disgusting, octopus-face pirate, Davy Jones (Bill Nighy); Will (Orlando Bloom) is plotting to free his father from the bondage of love-scorned Davy while in a lover’s quarrel with Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), who is feeling guilty after leaving Jack in the clutches of the Kracken, Davy Jones’ humongous squid monster.

The Age of Piracy is coming to an end as big corporate East India Trading Company is controlling the seas with Davy Jones and his ghost ship, the Flying Dutchman, at its service. The East India Trading Company is after the secrets of the pirate world, executing all pirates and destroying their ships.

This oppression calls on the Brethren Court – a meeting of the nine pirate lords of the world, which happens to include my homeboy, Jack, who is stuck in the hellish Davy Jones’ Locker, alone and tormented by his own delusions of being immortal.

Will (Orlando Bloom), oldskool Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), plucky Elizabeth, and gypsy queen Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), lead a rescue mission, traveling to sweaty Singapore, where pirate lord, Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat), holds the maps to the Locker.

Oh man, I need a nap.

At its core, Pirates 3 has to do with the supernatural world of sea goddesses and nautical zombies familiar to pirates pitted against the seeing-is-believing world of the East India Trading Company; a battle in which the last of the pirates fight for survival.

And if the pirate way of life is to survive, they must unite despite their double-crossing ways and fight against the Company that believes information is the ultimate power and only treasure worth fighting for.

With crazy-cool action, comedy, and yes, even a tear-jerking love story, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” is an awesome conclusion to the Pirates trilogy, answering and explaining a lot of the crap that left us hanging in the first two movies.

It’s disappointing that Ariel doesn’t show up, but did I mention Johnny Depp is in it?

P.S. Stay after the credits for a bonus scene.
