Faith Philosophy & Religion

Mormon(LDS) Cinema

okay, i’m not mormon. (ahem-”Latter Day Saints” they prefer to be called”. LDS for short)
but still, i like LDS movies.

they’re making movies for them by them, and i’ve enjoyed them. i’ve only seen a few, and they were pretty good, and at least interesting and amusing. these movies are full of religious jargon and self-referential in-jokes, making the films informative, entertaining and at the same time fascinating to view a bit of their mormonic world.

i recently saw one called “The Work and the Story” - it’s a mockumentary on the phenomena of the recent wave of “Mormon Cinema” and sort of a journey to find the next Mormon Spielberg. it’s pretty hilarious. all this while never putting away their faith or morals because as with the other lds films, it’s made by insiders.

anyway, let me again clarify that i am not a latter day saint, and the details of my belief system are pretty different from their philosophy even though they may use a common Book.
i’m just taking this opportunity to say that these LDS movies are great.
and yes, i am getting paid to write this: i’m at work. hahaah

OTHER Recent Movies made by Mormons:
Baptists at our Barbecue
The Work and the Story
The Home Teachers
Pride and Prejudice
The R.M.
Napoleon Dynamite(not officially LDS church sanctioned, but still)

States of Grace - one of the best movies related to Christian faith. The overall message of the film affirms the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the various states of His grace in which we find ourselves, including forgiving, saving, living in, and fallen.
