Drink Yourself Fat: dis-gusting
“Drink Yourself Fat” - a slightly funny, disgustingly graphic, and fairly new ad campaign from New York City’s public health officials urging citizens to stop drinking soda (and other sugary beverages). This campaign actually started last year as the Health Department began educating NYC about the effects (obesity, diabetes, etc.) of drinking soda and consuming sugar in the form of liquid. A soda tax for NYC was also placed into effect this past January as an additional effort to entice people to start drinking more water and other low calorie beverages.
As a former “soda addict,” I can attest to the fact that soda does lead to weight gain. Cutting soda out of my diet a few years ago led to a weight loss of about 15 pounds after one year, and that was just from cutting out soda. On the other hand, Americans consume tons of other crappy food and drinks that are also causes of obesity and diabetes and other diseases. I suppose it does boil down to one’s personal eating habits, metabolism, exercise routines (or lack of), family’s history of diseases, etc.
But, everything in moderation, right? Hmmm …
