“let’s make a movie based on an old movie or tv show that no modern teen has heard of
and then we’ll bombard them with ads about how cool it was through Entertainment Tonight, The Inside, and MTV.
Once they find out that some of their favorite less-than-talented “actors” will be in the movie, we’ll get tvland or nickelodeon to marathon the show, creating more advertising money without having to spend extra money on creating new content; this will then get all of the teens to SWEAR that this show is their absolute favorite show(until the next ‘retro’ show is marathoned),
and by the time the movie’s released and every teeny bopper has spent their parents’ money watching it, and every critic has bashed the trash, we’ll be thinking up the next trendy, rehashed foolishness.”
~~Major Movie Studio Decision Maker
In general, i think we should stop remaking movies or making tv shows into movies.
i mean c’mon, they’re gonna remake “Strangers on a Train“!??
there is plenty of creativity out there to make great films without having to capitalize on old tv shows or classic movies.
why not capitalize on old themes and stories without using a previously used movie/show? we all know that every movie is basically rooted in one of the four classic story-themes, but we can still be creative, we can still be original in our retelling of these stories.
remakes highlight our lack of creativity, furthering the unoriginal, money-headed mindset that hollywood proliferates. it continues to dumb down the next generation of movie-goers, and keeps the money in the same pockets.
okay, yeah, i love a lotta the old tv shows and movies. i love the reruns of All in the Familly or Facts of Life, but i don’t want them to make a movie about it. unless it’s a biopic, a reunion with all the original actors, or a “behind the scenes” controversy thing, and even then it doesn’t sound that appealing or possible.
[sigh]
i just wish the people making decisions would stop flipping through the retro channels for ideas. why not start being innovative, changing the way moviegoers expect a movie to be. what sucks is that moviegoers grow accustomed to what they’re seeing and they grow to expect more of it. creatures of habit and routine, we humans are. and the stupid movie moguls know it. so they keep forkin’ out the crap, knowing that we’ll go pay to see it, while their children are getting fatter.
movies shouldn’t follow trends; they should be stories that we wanna see and experience. timeless and creative.
we need to change the way movies are told, the way they’re made, and what we expect as a viewer.
how? I DON”T KNOW!! WHY YOU ASKIN’ ME??!? ha. okay but seriously, how bout the studios just NOT do what they’re doing now?
rant over. efrain out.
